Masquerade

Masquerade

A Poem by Alex P.

The masks we wear crack,

And our true selves seep through,

But hurry and shut yourself away again,

Because nobody wants to know the real you

Oh, but we try,

Let things through the cracks when nobody’s looking,

Or when we’re allowed to say what we feel,

But I wonder what would happen,

If we all let it go,

Would anybody bother to listen to our spiel?

Transitions are made,

And people come and go,

But only those who truly care,

Go where no one else dares to go

Half friends, partial truths,

All seem to dim, they don’t seem to compare,

When you’re feeling beat down,

And that nothing can make you feel again,

Then you look up and see your friend,

Standing waiting for you there

They’re the ones that will help you up,

When you’ve fallen so far into despair,

They try to make you laugh,

Remind you that you’re not alone,

Remind you why you still need to care

So let my mask crack,

Let my real self shine through

I’m not going to act anymore,

The only one who matters,

It’s only you.
