My Romeo

My Romeo

A Poem by Alex P.
"

A poem I write because I couldn't get "Love Story" out of my head. I tried, and failed, to make it rhyme.

"

My Romeo

Words whispered into my ear,

Reminiscent of days gone by

Gentle caresses across my cheek,

Reminding me you’re finally here

This love so long I’ve had to seek,

Is finally mine to hold, to keep

I’m still expecting to wake up

From this dream of rolling Verona hills,

The sweet song of nightingales,

And the luscious roses,

Which by any other name,

My being their intoxicating scent still fills

This is my romance,

I’ll keep it from the tragedy

No family rivalries, misunderstandings,

No poisonous vials for me

My sweet Romeo,

Be forever mine,

Even if you deny all that you are,

I will still love you

Through the eternal sands of time,

Much like the lovers lost

But, of course,

Our love will not have such dire cost

So lay here with me,

Through all that has happened,

Through all that will be,

We’re in this together,

And we’ll survive,

You’ll see

I love the way you added your own spin to a classic tale by saying that there are no family rivilaries. I also loved how you started off by infering that you need your Romeo and you can't stop thinking about him. Very clever and creative. It also has a very nice flow, which the rhyming helps with. Again very nice job and good piece of work.
PS I love "Love Story"!
