AlmostA Poem by Paul Allen KillebrewAn unrequited love poem.
I think I'll just sit here in the dark for a
while
Because its been so long since you left with my
smile
What was almost beautiful is now tender and
frail
As it lingers in the air with your sweet lilac
smell
This home is now hollow and barrenly cold
As my life without you begins to unfold It seems as though you walked out the door so
long ago
And why you have gone I may never know
Outside, gusts of wind steal the unwavering
quiet
As my mind tries to pacify this internal riot The ticking of the clock keeps time with my
vacant heart
While I keep track of the seconds that we've
been apart The cigarettes are stale, the coffee served
with a chill
Remnants of promises and dreams unfulfilled Memories so gentle are now treasures to fear
As I realize that there's no turning back for
us here I guess if we blame anything then we should
blame time
Though I trust that this burden rests on these
shoulders of mine It's not the wanton certainty of being alone
As much as melancholy from the unknown
So I silently weep as this chapter of my life
closes
On empty whiskey bottles and dead petals of
roses
Because you almost ran away with me, you almost
completed me
But almost has made me a fool
You almost said you need me, you almost said
you love me
But almost doesn't make me beautiful
I
was almost so beautiful to you © 2013 Paul Allen KillebrewAuthor's Note
