Lovedrug

Lovedrug

A Poem by Paul Allen Killebrew
"

A lyrical adaptation of the incredible pull one feels when they're in love.

"

When I look into her eyes I see

She is wise to the ways of the world

She can't be bound like the wind

Won't be held down like the wind

She comes by the light of my lucid dreams

And Something takes control of me

I wanna stay cool, but I come unwound

I'm outta my mind when she comes around

I try to kick her but I know I can't

Because she is in my blood

I see those eyes and I start to fly

She makes me live when I wanna die

But when I put her in my arms again I know

It's gonna burn

She's gettin' me high once again

I'm lost and found in her skin

I close my eyes and my world starts shakin'

Can't do it on my own and my heart starts breakin'

It's just another story that's as old as time

Ain't got no reason, ain't got no rhyme

I'm never gonna lose and I'm never gonna win

I try to get out, she pulls me back in

She makes me feel like a saint when I know it's a sin

Her love is a drug I just shouldn't take

Author's Note

Paul Allen Killebrew
This is actually the bulk of the lyrics for a song. I haven't recorded it because the music is too complicated for me to do alone, and I have no band. It has an intentionally unusual rhyming patter. Typically we find poetry to follow something along the lines of ABB ACC, AA BB CC, or AB CD. For this I eliminated the A for the first several stanzas, amounting to xxBB xxCC, xxDD, etc., then followed in with a rush of AA BB CCC. Interesting, no?
