"Had you simply been there to even hold my hand; If you had done what you said you'd do"... a series of simple, seemingly insignificant things that make all the difference. Great job in communicating the simple fact that "yes, it was my choice, and yes, it was the right choice, but nonetheless, it was a choice I hoped I would never have to make and it is far from easy".
"Today I saw a flicker of a life that might have been... a little piece of a life we planned"... two very powerful lines with strong lyrical qualities. I've said it before and will say it again... would love to see you put some of your words to music someday. Always a pleasure to review your work :)
"I walked away, I made the choice
I listened to my inner voice"
For me, the most powerful lines in this bittersweet poem. Intuition is to humans what instinct is to animals.
Don't look back for too long . . . you won't be able to see where you are going. Well written and truly enjoyed
Such extraordinary honesty - cathartic hopefully, and, beautiful expressed. So hope the future will bring you smiles - they're cheap, they're easy to come by, you just turn up the corners of your lips... then, God willing you feel them deep inside.

Just because we make a choice; one we know to be the right one; doesnt mean we dont feel the loss or the pain. Sometimes the right choices are the hardest ones we make, those are the ones that can come back on those rainy days; the ones we turn over and over again within our hearts and souls. Our inner voices never lead us astray (I agree with Dani here) and life usually works out in the end when we heed them. that doesn't mean you don't feel the pain or that you aren't entitled to. Cry if you have to, cleanse yourself of that loss so you are open to the possibilities that await you.
Yes your choice but painful nonetheless and that pain likes to revisit from time to time just to remind you it's there, it's all about choice and there is no right or wrong just choices, haunting choices. I really feel this one Kath, I am constantly haunted by mine. You certainly hit a nerve here. Sad writing but very real.
Kath, this is so bittersweet. A regret AND a celebration of freedom. That's life in a nutshell, isn't it? Those choices we make still leave us wondering, "What if??"
I am glad for who you are. As far as I'm concerned, you chose well.
Some of my work is very personal and some is flight taking fancy... a writer's prerogative... :)
Read something of mine and I will read something of yours - very nice and simple and what a way.. more..
