Hey Hey Buffet

Hey Hey Buffet

A Poem by SPINNING ON that dizzy edge

My daughter said he's watching you -
Hot Bald Man, over there.
He's been up seven times at least
and walks around the chair
to get a better look at you
when he could fill his plate
Don't you see he's INTO you -
go ask him for a date...

I smiled at her, that silly child
it seemed that she'd be wrong
guys don't watch and look at me
it's really been too long
since I knew what to do if he
was flirting now or stalking
Oh why not test the strut a bit
instead of merely walking

I really didn't want to know
what he had on his mind
better I pick out my own...
thoughts of a certain kind
to make my heart beat very fast
and think maybe she's right
I have been working at the gym
to make those muscles tight  (sigh)

Whimsical and smiling thoughts
were dancing in my head
attention paid, a longing gaze
could make me feel not DEAD
from all the nights I lay and cried
and watched a marriage slowly die
It was just -
just some minutes ...
minutes
from a smiling man
that made me strut
and made me brave
enough to try again.

kath nehls - it was in June '07... today it makes me smile.

Well! Three years ago, d'y'say? I guess that answers that OTHER question, right enough! Wonder how it is you never crossed my awareness before...an oversight I shall set about amending forthwith! I truly enjoyed thhis poem, writing about the death of love, yet without the bitterness, and the rebirth of hope, yet without the giddiness. It is truly a wonderful day, to be allowed the illusion again, so long shelved, that we are desireable, and to be allowed to un-crate and dust off those old tools we once used and discover that they still work! A really entertaining and inspirational piece, Kath!

It's such a wonderful feeling, to feel not DEAD! We women are not high maintenance, just a certain look once in awhile makes our day!

What a delightful write this is! Sometimes women are oblivious to the attention men are paying. We have old tapes that play in our heads and they come back to haunt. I am sure he WAS looking at you and it took your daughter to see that clearly. Even if you never spoke with that man, he empowered you...gave you confidence....to go out and find love again. What a happy story you told...almost like a fairy tale. I enjoyed it so much. Lydia

This was fun, and the truth in so many ways. Even if a woman is married happily she can sometimes feel lost amid everything day to day. I know many times I've wondered if men still notice me - and get a sort of satisfaction when they do. It is even better to know they still notice when you're having troubles. A good write for sure :) It flowed perfectly. Thank you for sharing.
