Ours

Ours

A Poem by SPINNING ON that dizzy edge

I look for you...
  in a crowded room
in the stillness of my beating heart
in a restaurant - that was ours...

I dream of you...
when the cool air comes in the window
when that dating commercial comes on
when I hear a song - that was ours...

                      I miss you...
as I walk around that favorite store
as I think - what would he think?
as I watch that silly show - that was ours.....

I might be there...
if you called and asked me
if you made a moonlight wish
if you could share the space
that was ours.....

Gentle thoughts that seem to bring about memories within your speaker that pack a punch, and a hard one at that. What I like about this is how it twists the normality of what everyone perceives during their normal days and morphs it into an item that holds a cumbersome message to the soul. The longing in this piece, existing throughout the entirety of the poem, is what ties the knot, for me. Truly a well-written piece.

This was ethereal; one could feel the ghosts of what was once upon a time. I could feel as I read.

It'll turn into nostalgia, but not soon enough. Somethings sometimes gnaw and need a scratching. Nicely done.

This makes my heart ache. I feel the void ... no ... the chasm, where "that other" used to reside in the narrator. Something of them certainly still resides there, but there is a yawning void where they once were. This one hurts, as I believe it is supposed to.

It's funny how so many little things can remind us of the one we love, or the one we long for. I definitely can relate to your words. Simple and yet, heartfelt.
Beautiful poetry!

Oh my, such a beautifully melancholy write… when a loved one goes away the memories remain sparked by many things that you two shared.
