Alexandra's Sleepy Kingdom

Alexandra's Sleepy Kingdom

A Poem by Michael Leon Wilson

Crested upon a starry jeweled cosmic blanket,
a brilliant pearl moon glitters and shines,
It's radiance ushers forth a glow, that envelopes the whispering tides,
the waves dance upon their toes, hushing upon the shore in ebbs and flows,
little crabs scuttle in cozy hollows,
safe from all the gulls and swallows.
Tiny silver minnows flitter among the shallows,
drifting lazily, embracing the night that follows.
In the deep the fishes sleep, nestled in the security of their faithful coral reef.
Upon the shore a castle lay, stones piled neat thrusting a tower high,
A starke relief against the starry sky,
through lacy curtains a princess peers,
The ocean assuaging her secret fears.
She peers lovingly at her kingdom on the salty sea.
Her eyes are heavy, her bed so comfy, and the waves will lull her fast to sleep.
They sing and shush, a lullaby so soft and assuring,
The pull and push of the ocean so adoring,
she drifts soundly to dreams, and her peace enduring, restful bliss ensues until the dawn of morning. The moon smiles brightly, as he hears his princess snoring.
