Ashes and Embers

Ashes and Embers

A Poem by Michael Leon Wilson

Life is an inferno
One that burns bright and is presumably sempiternal
A fire made by many embers
As each one of us fade to ashes
More tinder catches
We blaze on wild and reckless
Some burn brighter than others
Some ignight the night with light
While others fight to not be extinguished
Upon the flame the ashes float
Upon this earth we for a coat
And cover coast to coast
We fly high, we float upon boats.
If it's ashes to ashes and dust to dust by definition we ride the cusp
Of existence and transition always moving changing exchanging position.
The smoke will rise and choke the skies but before our fire dies will you listen?
To survive we are given an impossible mission, not to offer suppression to the hearth .
The heart the center,
To build it splinter by splinter
Else our inferno fall to nothing but ashes and embers.
