Discovery Of Dragons

Discovery Of Dragons

A Chapter by Michael Leon Wilson

Daniel awakened on the eve of the next morning, full of ambition and curiosity. He sauntered down to the dining hall to get his morning rations, powdered eggs and bacon jerky. He ate quickly as the meal was not very good and he was eager to explore. Daniel could not help but feel lonely, after all everyone he once knew was most likely dead by now, and siblings he may have eventually have discovered existed.
He exited the Light Maiden, and stood in all the glory of the two dull orange suns burning low in the sky. He took a deep breath and held in the sweet dense air of Austerlize. Daniel raced off toward the suns, three moons above him in constant revolving orbit twirling around the sky. He reached the woods quickly, too quickly not even breathing heavily.
Daniel roamed around the forest, without sighting another of those four legged crows or anything else too alarming for the first few hours. Then, out of no where Daniel came upon a clearing and in this clearing was a single tree. This tree smelled so delicious, its fruit dangling near the ground, bright orange and purple. It was about lunch time and Daniel decided to take a bite of one and see what would happen.
The juices flowed in a small stream down his chin as he bit into this odd fruit. It was incredibly sweet and tasted similar to a peach, honey and it fizzed with carbonation. This tree produced so much oxygen and used so much carbon dioxide that the fruit was literally carbonated Daniel thought. He waited five minutes or so sitting under this tree to see if the fruit would have any ill effects, but when none presented themselves he ate four more.
Daniel went to walk out of the other side of the tree when suddenly he was doubled over a rock half his size.
This "rock" was gleaming brilliantly, and clear like a diamond and it was polished perfectly into an oval.
There was , something inside the rock, as if it were set in stone many eons ago and lied there encased in diamond ever since. Daniel stroked the rock admiring the smooth surface when it suddenly cracked, once, twice, and the it shattered. Beneath the rubble, staring at him with gleaming eyes was a dragon. This little hatch-ling was covered in diamond dust and his eyes were the same color, and glinting up at him. his scales were a burnt neon orange, with streaks of pure clear diamond. His head was cocked to one side, gazing at him intently his head topped with two tiny bumps that looked as if they would grow into horns. His spine was smooth and his tail had a spiked fin on the end of it.
The dragonet stretched its wings wide as if it had been asleep for a long journey. The ends of his wings had a single black talon. Its forelegs had five claws each a deep glossy black, the hind legs had seven claws the longest on the inside the size of a pocket knife. Daniel reached out toward it's head, slowly, and stroked it softly. A strange gurgle came from the little dragon and it pushed its head against his head, and then it bit him. Daniel got dizzy suddenly, and a warm blanket of unconsciousness covered him.

As Daniel woke he opened his eyes to see a sky alight with stars and the three ever present moons above. Daniel was aware of a warmth on his side and as he turned to look there was a patient looking stare coming from the diamond eyes of a dragon.
Good god I thought I was dreaming! Exclaimed Daniel aloud. A thunderous voice came from inside his head " It's about time you awaken, I've waited eons for you to come, and then I fuse with you, and I believed you dead".
What, you can speak?!
Not exactly, Not yet at least. I'm still learning your tongue.
- So how?
Youngling did I not tell you that I have fused with you? Did your ancestors teach you nothing?
Daniel thought silently. Maybe those fruits are like mushrooms, this cant be real.
" It can be real and it is real, you are just quite groggy from the fusion" Spoke an impatient dragon.
What is this fusion you are ranting about dragon? Snapped Daniel.
The dragon spoke slowly as if recalling from memory.
"My eyes are yours in which to see
My heart and your heart will share a beat
and your death will bring the end of me"
" When I bit you, it was not for spite but to fuse with you. Dragons can not live without a human counterpart. You created us that way, nigh the dawn of time ago. You can see through my eyes, once you grant me a name by speaking it aloud. My aura flows through you my power is your power. Your heart and mine beat the same, If yours stops so does mine."
Daniel sat against the tree which he was compelled to call it a dragon fruit tree. This is just too much to take in at once, what do you mean humans created you eons ago?  Why did you call me a youngling you just hatched? How do you know so much you were just born! Oh, and what on earth do you name a dragon? Daniel chuckled at the use of earth in his rant, it clearly puzzled this scaly beast.
" Well if you insist on so many questions I must find food first and upon my return I shall tell you all" Said the dragon inside Daniels head as the four square feet of scales teeth and wings leaped high into the sky and flew off into the night sky.
Daniel ate more dragon fruit and pondered in his head what to name a beast of burnt neon orange and diamond scales and black talons that could well kill him and one fell swoop. Its like a dog, except a dog is furry and cant eat you, thought Daniel morbidly.
