AusterlizeA Chapter by Michael Leon WilsonDaniels first steps came as a stumble as he made his way off of the landing ramp of the light maiden, an interplanetary craft that had been his transport to Austerlize. 186 years in a cryogenic freezer tends to leave you a bit stiff he mused. Daniel was a stout boy of 17 years, or well used to be he thought. Lets see 186 plus 17 that makes me, 203?!? That means it is the year 2406, well you know what they say time flies when you are cryogenically frozen. The world around the craft was bright, humid and refreshing. The Light Maiden was huge, it was like a giant flying city. They had landed in what appeared to be a desert, yet not even a mile distant was a huge reaching forest with huge reaching trees. They parked the Light Maiden here because it was a clearing big enough to land but yet close enough to vegetation we may drill for water. The objective was to use the vessel as a starting city to start building on the surface. Judging by the trees we would have cabins. A fresh start and entire new society, a new planet, and for Daniel an new life. Daniel had been an orphan, his parents long ago dead in some supposed accident, he had no family he knew of now friends and now this was his new life. It seemed as if it had just begun, his past only a distant memory. They sent 2000 people to colonize, build for themselves along with 500 doctors, officials, engineers, and scientists. Mr. Joel was standing next to him on the exit ramp, he was one of those scientists. He was exclaiming about how high the oxygen levels and how low the gravity. Apparently the gravity was a fraction of earths. " dear boy give me a hop" said Mr. Joel, one bound sent him soaring 10 feet into the air. The landing was soft and easy to handle, knees bowing absorbing the impact. "well boy go have a look around but mind you rations come out in another hour". Daniel sprinted off at a tremendous pace marveling at his new physical capabilities, off towards the lumbering trees. He approached the first tree he came across, its branches high in the air, strange pointy leaves bristling about but were far enough away he could see near the trunk there was space enough for one to climb, if only he could reach so high, 20 feet in the air that was. He gathered himself breathing deeply and leaped skyward and he missed his branch, overshooting knocking his head on the branch above it and scaring some strange creature out. It was a bird, a very peculiar bird, with four wings two on either side like a bi plane. Its beak was more of a snout, with large teeth inside a yellow beak. It had very large tail feathers and was black all over except a single solitary blue feather on its hind side. It would appear this world is indeed, inhabited. The inhabitants appear to be stranger, than even fiction. Daniel headed home for his ration pondering what other strange oddities he may find tomorrow,
