My Accident.A Story by KMechele1224The accident that changed my life.
It all started September 2nd, 2006 when my god father wanted to spend the day with me.. He was only gonna be in the states for a couple weeks before he had to go back to Iraq. It was his last week in the states, he wanted to take me out to the lake to ride the jet skis his aunt and uncle owned, we wanted to spend his last day with me... He came and picked me up and we went to go get the jet skis and to go pick up his girlfriend. We were headed out to the lake and I was very excited because it was my first time to go on one of these things and the only thing going threw my head was "OH MY GOD THIS IS GOING TO BE SO MUCH FUN!" I guess my thought were wrong that day.....
We got out to the lake and we get the Jet Ski in the water and I had to go to the bathroom to put my swimsuit on. When I got back the Jet Ski was in the water and My god father, His girlfriend and I got on the Jet Ski, that was a bad idea.. We get out to where we were just gonna go crazy and have the time of our life before he had to leave. Hours of fun go by and we switch drivers and I am on the very back holding on to the shoulders of the person in front of me and I am standing up because I am still excited, We take off and I flew off the back and pulled the person off with me.., something tragic happened in those 30 second that I will never forget... We both get back on the Jet ski and we head back to the dock because I have to go to the bathroom and I was not feeling well after that. It took almost two hours to get back to the dock because going fast really hurt my stomach so we took it slow. As we got to the dock I went to the bathroom with my god fathers girlfriend took me to the bathroom to make sure I was ok, Mt god father watched us walk to the bathroom and I could see the fear in his eyes. When I went to the bathroom when I was done I went to go wipe and there it was....blood... on the toilet paper and I told my god fathers girlfriend she asked where it was coming from....it was coming from my butt... We are headed back to the truck with the jet ski on the trailer, I had to ride up front because sitting up was to painful for me, so his girlfriend sat in the back and I had the seat laid back because that was the only way I was not in pain. I had fallen asleep in my god fathers truck on the way back to my father house. My dad was loading the truck because our family was headed to Kingston Washington to go see my grandpa because my dads birthday was the next day. My god father gets out of the car and talks to my dad, I could not hear what they were saying because the windows were up. My dad came running to the side of the car and helped me out, when I got out of the car I could not stand up straight it hurt to bad. Me still not knowing what is going on besides that I am bleeding. My dad takes me to the bathroom knowing how uncomfortable it was going to be for me to let him look and see what was wrong, after he saw he put me back in the car and drove me to the Emergency room right down the street. We get to the Emergency room and he is helping me walk because it wad getting very hard the more I walked, we got in there and they gave me a wheel chair and my dad told them what was going on, I still had no clue. They got me back there really fast they did blood tests, cat scans and ex rays and then they told me what was going on... I had split in between my legs from my women part all the way up my back side and that was not the worst part, the worst part was, was that my intestines had blown up and they did not have the right equipment to do the required surgery on me, so I got life flighted to Portland. Before they put me on the helicopter the zipped me in a bag that would keep me warm while in the sky. They let me dad go in the helicopter with me and I was glad because I did not feel safe without him. We get up in the sky and they let me know how long it was going to take and they let me talk to my dad my dad said this " Everything is going to be ok, I love you Buddy" then I slowly faded, but before I faded I felt I was close... close to not making it...close to death, it scared me. We get to the hospital and they let me see my dad one more time before I went in the back and that is when I went under a 3 hour surgery. After the surgery I woke up and they were pulling me down the hall to my room and the first face I saw was my dads, I was so happy to see him, to see that I was ok. They brought me to my room and I slept for a good day or two, but the day after my surgery I woke up and I said to my dad " Happy Birthday daddy." and feel back asleep. I woke up I told me everything that they did. They put 7 metal clamps in my intestines to hold them together and I had over 300+ stitches inside and out. My grandmother from Ocean Shores Washington, my mom,my other grandmother, one of my sisters and my uncle came and saw me from Coos Bay Oregon. My grandmother from Washing slept in the room with me every night. She would not let my dad sleep in the same room as me because she wanted him to get rest. I was suppose to be in the hospital for three plus months, they did not want me walking, they wanted me to heal properly and I was not eating because I was not hungry and we had to wait because of the surgery. On the 3rd day I made HUGE progress I was hungry, I ate, they had to give me medication to digest the food. A day later I was up and walk, with support of course, but I was walking!!! Some people came that I did not know and they told me I was gonna get pain and suffering money when I turn 18 for what I went threw, that did not matter at the time, all I wanted was to be home. So on day four I would say I got very good news, I healed faster then they thought and that I was making amazing progress. I was able to go home tomorrow. I was so happy! The next day came and they came in with my discharge papers and my dad signed them and we were gone. Before I left they gave me a Tie-Dye blanket that I slept with for years. Here I am December 2015 about to turn 18, Happy, somewhat healthy. To this day I am so scared to get on a Jet Ski. I will have the 7 metal clamps in my intestines forever my intestines just grown over them. If it was not for my dad I do not think I would have been as strong as I was. He kept telling me I was gonna be ok and I was. Even when I went back for my check up I was great and the doctors were still amazed. I am so happy I am here today.
