Kareena

Kareena

A Story by K.M. Lucero

Kareena reflects in silence in the soft glow of the moonlight; a single tear glides down her left cheek. Sitting in her window sill starring out at the calm dark sea she relives the day’s events.

Waking up in the warmth of the morning sun Kareena lays under her deliciously comfortable sheets pulling them closer to the bare skin of her legs, allowing them to wrap around each leg weaving them strategically to achieve maximum coverage.  Not wanting to leave her cocoon Kareena closed her eyes quickly when the maid, Eugenia, checked in on her to see if she had awoken. Eugenia not fooled by Karenna’s antics pulled the covers from the bed in one quick sweep of her arms, leaving Kareena exposed in her thin night gown.

“No fair! How do you always know when I am awake?” Protest Kareena as she slides off the side of the bed falling ungracefully to her knees with a loud thud.

“Child, you have the worst snoring problem in all the kingdom. I know you awake when the walls stop shaking every morning.” Eugenia emphasized shaking by swaying her large hips from side to side, a bright gleam in her eye as she walked past Kareena and her childish protest.
Pulling herself up from the floor Kareena drudged over to her amour, dragging her feet to emphasize her irritation at being pulled from her wonderful bed.

This is very good. It's like a snapshot of their lives, just a fleeting moment. It seems so mundane, but I think that makes it powerful - for me it emphasises that every moment in our lives is important or means something.

Not sure if that's what you intended, but it's what I got from it. So well done :)
