Chapter 14A Chapter by K.M. LuceroChapter 14
The light was finally gone. There was nothing but silence left
in its place. More silence than Chloe would have liked considering she was in
pitch black silence and alone. She had never felt this alone in her life and it beckoned panic
and unreachable tears. To be so far away from him terrified her and caused her
a deep pain that was so all consuming that it was magnificent at the same time.
He was now her reason for living and she
couldn’t bear not knowing where he was while she was lying there trapped in the
black and silence. Chloe was determined to pull herself from
the darkness so she could once again be with him. She made her mind focus on
the only thing that she could her own body. Remembering and trying to bring
each digit into an image that she could work with. It was like making that image visible in
her own mind was so important and she began with the smallest of details. The
round curve of her nail, the pink wrinkles of her prints in her soft skin even
the high arch of her foot. She began to see the image in her mind and at that precise moment
she could feel her own toes moving ever so slightly. Holding on to that small
ounce of growing hope Chloe began to concentrate on larger parts of her body.
Legs. Abdomen. Arms. Chest. The beating of her heart in her chest. With the first beat of her heart Chloe immediately sensed something
just beyond the edge of her minds boundary. It seemed to be testing that
boundary for something. Chloe concentrated her mind on that spot so she could
get a better feel for it. A slender tentacle like object was inching its way
around the barrier of her mind and it seemed so welcoming to Chloe. Chloe pulled herself to her feet and inched her way towards the
tentacle. Something about it was calling to her. An overwhelming need to touch
the tentacle overcame all her other senses and she began to run towards it. Fear quickly overcame her earlier urge and Chloe sprinted across
the darkness towards it. Like a bad dream the faster she ran and the harder she
pushed resulted in the distance growing instead of shrinking. Stopping as fast as she began Chloe stood trying to wrap her
mind around the test she was obviously put into. This reminded her of a day at
the circus in the fun house surrounded by all the mirrors. Her lips uplifted into a clever smile as Chloe outstretched her
hand towards the tentacle. Now only inches away from the strange object Chloe
began to feel an overwhelming joy emanate from the strange being in front of
her. It was so welcoming, so lovely and welcoming that it pulled Chloe the
final distance towards it. As the two were closing the distance a bright blue flash of
light threw Chloe back and pulsed around the top of her like a large dome
sealing her inside and the tentacle outside. At that same moment of impact
Chloe and the tentacle began to scream out in a blood curdling cry finally understanding
the reality of the prison. Chloe through her hands to her head and screamed out in pain. She
screamed out for the love that she would never have the chance to embrace. She
screamed out for the love that was stolen from her. Chloe screamed and her voice began to grow in pitch and she felt
the pressure and a new stabbing pain within her own skull. She embraced the self-created
pain as it was much better than the empty hole in her chest. With
her hands clutched in tight, white fists Chloe threw her head back and raised
the pitch of her scream so much that she felt as if she was howling out instead
of screaming and she loved that idea so much better. Then she felt the air being pulled from her
lungs as she fell backwards into the darkness reaching out in terror as she
went. © 2012 K.M. Lucero |
