Hydrogen II

Hydrogen II

A Poem by Karen Zimmer
"

A poem for my boyfriend, Jake. I love you.

"

He asked me

What I meant

I having already

Spent

My words

On fire

Told him

I couldn’t

Tell him

Because he

Was a flood

And I was

A series of

Sentences

Probably filed in an atlas

Of rivers

Too touched

To promise the same glowing heat

When Fall washes up
And his currents freeze

When fire speaks...it speaks with passion, but when it's done, it's washed up. To ask for the same fiery blaze to be spoken again is futile and inconsiderate. While he can speak and speak, because the water current is fluid and cyclical and can only be frozen in time for a brief moment. I like the play with fire and water here.
