ErieA Poem by Karen ZimmerA poem for my father.I wrote you today
I admired As much as I did your smile The sand As it was washed by my words where we had stood
With fingers dragging in the dirt backwards I wrote the currents
I sent you a letter Carved in the earth The wonder of the summer was wrecked like the waves Escaping from under my toes
The water widowed each syllable But spoke your most fluent language
Washed away and sent out towards the lake My words flowed to the bow of that wooden boat And I know you heard, I just know
I sent you a letter Destined to the sky The lake" The envelope The ink" The tide
You read what I wrote I know it, I just know
I sent you a letter" Summer felt like your reply © 2014 Karen ZimmerAuthor's Note
