You

You

A Poem by Krystal Thomas

I don’t think anyone knows anyone they way anyone knows anyone;

And I don’t think anyone knows you.

So many times I had to scrape the pavement just to get a piece of the cement that encases your heart.

So many times I became a part of the pavement.

A part of the cracks that I made in attempt to feel you.

I taught you how to melt cement,

And you taught me how to build a wall in between vulnerability and myself.

You took my memory of how to soften and used it for your future;

And I became so obsessed with your absence,

I became you.
