I'm Sorry..

I'm Sorry..

A Story by K. Harding
"

I'm sorry, dear Nightingale..

"

I wish I could be the man you think I am...

To let the Nightingale free; such a beautiful sight. I hope one day she returns to me as I wait alone in my castle dwelling in the hope I let you have a better life - free from pain. Drowning in silent tears of love that time forget. An eternity wandering the gilded beaches in search for your eyes.

Return to me, sweet Nightingale.

I'm sorry...

I find this a bit enigmatic if I am truthful but I know I'm not good at interpreting metaphor. I feel that the word forget doesn't seem right - perhaps forgot. I'm not sure what the gilded beaches are.
I do think your idea is good.

Even tho I'm pretty sure you're talking about the man-woman type of love here (or same sex, if that's your preference) . . . I'm getting a totally different read on this, so I might as well mention it. I was thinking about giving up a child for adoption, as I read your words; "hope I let you have a better life" . . . really, this could also be the message in your poem. Since I never felt I'd be a fit mother (no kids by choice), I can relate to this way of interpreting. I never gave away a child, but this might be how it could feel. Either way, very thought-provoking & digging deep for original meaning.

Very achingly sad. Broke your own heart...
The framing lines very effective.

So Sydney Carton. Isn't that the best kind of man? Why apologize for that?

“If you love something, set it free.” An old refrain. Unrequited love is a tough one. Hits you in the gut and doesn't let up. It's Lancelot's wound that never heals.

Good work. It has feeling.
