Save Me

Save Me

A Poem by Kate Grafton

There is never a day I am not

On guard for my heart.

I could be perceived as a robot

But protecting myself is an art.

I have not seen a day

Where kindness and love have found me.

Here I am far away

To dream of being free.

Here I am alone again

But then, somehow you found me.

My life was once so dull

Void of love and light

Then you were brave enough to pull

Me out of the fight.

And now I’m free of fright.

Everything is brighter

With you next to me

Although I may still be a fighter

Inside I know I’m free.

Though I may wear my mask

It is to protect me.

But now I see my new task

Is to stay with you and never flee.

Living life on the edge

I don’t know any other way.

Come to the ledge

And save me so I don’t have to pay.
