Island

Island

A Poem by Kate Grafton

Waves crash against the shore.

It’s the one thing fate can lure

Me to the ends of the world.

The wind blows right through me.

My heart longing to be free

From all of these chains.

It is a long shot

To have you near.

But I’m tired of this lot

Giving me my fear.

I don’t want to be lonely.

This chance might be my only.

I won’t give up on this.

You’re the one that I need.

Escape with me into the bliss.

You’d be doing a great deed.

I see your face

But not the place.

Reach for my hand

Take me to your land.

Your island

Is where I want to go

Take a stand

But go with the heart’s flow.

Let the water carry me

Right into your arms.

And with you, I’ll flee

Ignoring the alarms.

Take this soul

And you’ll be my goal

Let's escape to the island.
