The Story of Hat Friend

Hat Friend was born on March 22, 1989. He lived in Berlin, Germany. When he was very young, about 7, he was inspired by milliners who had stores all around his town. Hat Friend lived in a small house by himself. It was one story, and he eventually had to work to pay for it. Before he was able to work, though, a kind person named Melodanaraylin payed the small amount of money for the house.

A few years later, when he could work, he got a job at a small hat business right outside of town. Hat Friend, surprisingly, made enough money from this to pay for water, electricity, and shelter, but not food. One day, he was looking around, coming home from work, and saw something that looked like a hamburger. He picked it up, and without thinking, he immediately ate it. It turned out that this was actually a small, yellow hat that he dropped the previous day. This was the day that Hat Friend got the “Hat” part of his name. From this day forward, he ate hats and nothing else.

This career became boring for him, so he decided to save up so he could go to college. When he thought he had enough money, no colleges accepted him because he didn't go to middle school or high school. Luckily, there was a small public middle school called Orange and the Orange Middle School. This school was very strange, and VERY strange people went there.

He went through half a year of being a normal student(at least out of the people there), and learning normal stuff, but one day one of his teachers suggested he should take the gifted test. The program there was called GEB (Gifted Education in Berlin).

The day finally came. He took the test, and, a few weeks later, he got the results. Hat Friend earned an 88% in verbal, a 98% in non-verbal, and a 97% quantitative reasoning. So, he was accepted in.

For the rest of the year, and the next, he was in GEB. He was 17. He learned he was really good at building things and playing the double bass. He was very artistic. Eventually, he got out of middle school, and advance to the next grade. He went to Fish a Fish High School. This place was also very strange.

At this school, his electives were welding and orchestra. He welded all sorts of things including mini farms, jewelry, and hat charms. Hat charms were his favorite things to make. Sometimes they were small little hearts that could dangle off of your hat, and sometimes they were large rings to go around the top. Either way, Hat Friend made them all the time.

In orchestra, he continued to play the double bass. He was the only one in class. They only had 12 people in orchestra. Six violins, two violas, three cellos, and himself.

Hat Friend was 19 his first year of Fish a Fish High School, so no body wanted to be friend with him. He was lonely the whole time, but the teachers were nice and encouraged him to keep going through high school and into college.

Four years later, he could get into college. He still had the money, and he had done some amazing things to get him scholarships. He was accepted into Berlin University of Architecture and Music. This school was perfect for him. He already had eight years of playing the double bass, and he had four years of welding experience.

He finally got his four years of college. He could do many jobs relating to these things now, but he no longer wanted to. He decided just to be an inventor and sell his stuff. Eventually, he moved to a very far away place called Yesterday.

For the rest of his life, Hat Friend would go on doing what he loved. With the money he made, he now bought the hats from stores, and if they had any plastic on them, he would rip it off and use it for an invention. But, sadly, his nutrition was still very poor. All he ate was sugar, fabric, and lights.

He went on playing the double bass, sometimes earning money from concerts. He donated some of the money he made from that to homeless people and the hat store. He frequently went there, for it was his favorite store. He had a very happy life living in Yesterday.

Living in a place called Yesterday, like being stuck in the past. In the past, where he was happy. Could it be, In the parallel universe called Today, he suffers still, unable to pay for food, doing something he's good at yet not making enough to afford Life? Could the full truth of it be that he moved to Yesterday only in his mind to escape the never ending terrors of the Present, to escape the Future where happiness isn't definite and change is inevitable? Sugar, fabric and lights. Anywhere but Yesterday this diet would surely kill a person before the first month. But the rules are different there. He could eat whatever he wanted there, where he had enough money to do so, so why did he choose those things? Sugar, to add something sweet to a life that otherwise had much potential to become bitter. Fabric, to patch holes in his heart and soul that he chooses to ignore. Literal lights, in an attempt to add their figurative counterpart to a place full of shadows except to the ignorant. A character, so light-hearted and fun, but with a great amount of underlying pain. Wow. My stories always end up dark somehow.

That's an interesting way of looking at it.
