Chapter TwelveA Chapter by Katie WanAwww <3The sun had begun to fall. The sky filled with wonderful vibrant fall colors. They illuminated the whole city wonderfully. Parker shut the sliding glass door behind us. “This is magnificent.” The words hardly escaped my mouth. The deck below us was very large. It spread along the length of the house. A glass fence stood around it protecting us from the long drop. Light cement sat firmly under our feet. Large deck chairs with bedlike mattresses were lined along the deck. Their light fabric glowed with the colors of the sky. Parker sat down on one of them and leaned back. “It sure is something.” I took a deep breath of the fall air and sat down on the deck chair next to Parker. His head turned and he looked at me. “What’re you doing all the way over there?” I looked below me at the seat. “Yours was taken?” There was a question in my voice. I didn’t know what he was getting at exactly. He smiled. “I helped you escape from your family for a night and treated you to a nice dinner. The least you could do is sit closer to me.” His body slid over and he patted the spot next to him. I smiled and wrapped my arms around my torso. A cool wind blew at our faces. My body slid into the spot next to him. Immediately his arms wrapped around me and pulled me tight into his chest. Our legs tangled together tightly and I sunk deeper into him. My cheek rested on his chest as I curled into his strong body. The wind blew my hair back out of my face. He didn’t need to speak a word to send chills down my spine. Just the touch of his lips did that. They grazed lightly across the top of my head. His lungs breathed loudly as he took a deep breath in. There was no other place in the world I would rather be than here with him. I hated that I had to hide this. He made me so happy and no one could ever know. I flattened my hand on his chest and kissed one of his Pecs. I wanted to stay right here forever. But even in my small immature mind I knew that couldn’t happen. What we had was looked down upon. Not just by my parents, but by the whole city. We were different and people couldn’t handle that. If only they could know what we had to go through just to be ourselves, maybe then they’d be a little nicer. “I wish life were this easy.” I finally whispered into his chest. “It just doesn’t seem fair.” Parker took a deep breath, “If it was would it be worth it? Would want to have what everyone else does?” He sat quietly for a moment before speaking again. “You take what you get and you make something out of it.” My fingers found one of his buttons. It circled the plastic bead over and over again. There was nothing I could say after his profound sentence. Quietly I just studied the words spoken from his beautiful mouth. “I’ll take care of you,” the words were simple and to the point. “You don’t need to worry anymore.” His lips again pressed into the top of my head. My arm wrapped around his torso and I scooted closer into his body, if it was even possible. My ears strained as I listened to his deep heartbeat. There was more love than blood inside that large muscle of his. It truly was a magical thing. His thumb came to the side of my cheek and stroked it softly. “You’re the most beautiful human being on this planet. I don’t deserve you.” “Why is that?” I asked as my eyelids slowly closed. The air filled his lungs again. “I wasn’t always the best person.” “I thought we were putting our past behind us. Starting all over with each other?” Quietly he moved his hand to the top of my head. He twirled a strand of my hair around and around in his fingers. “You’re right, we’re starting over.” © 2010 Katie Wan |
