Sumerian Epic PoemA Poem by KASI2012; An epic poem written for a Sumerian group project- in a class where english and history was combined. We were to create a king, and a hero, and write how the hero saves everyone from DurjonzdarIt was a beautiful day and the guards were sitting there bored But that all ended when they saw that some boats had shored A closer look at the sails and all they could do was stare For it was Durjonzdar and his men, and they weren’t here to share The news spread quickly, Just like a forest fire The people were panicked, what did they desire? “They came for our gold” some of the children said “They’re big and hairy, and like apes their butts are red” Mothers clung to their children while the men prepared For it was a battle and everyone was most scared The Hammar came down to honor each one Then said he would join, and not be left out of the fun He gathered his men in front of the temple, eating before And ordered the children and ladies to Harbor indoor “Listen up men, we have our bronze shields, We’ll shine in the sun and force them to yield” They marched out of the city prepared for battle But they were outnumbered by the Durjonzdar’s cattle The enemy was attacking, the results were unclear Who would win this battle? Would some hero appear? Sword clashed in the sun, covered in red Our people were falling, lives being shed It was a fierce battle between our mankind But if it kept up our kingdom would unwind Great Durjonzdar was especially a fright He had many battle scars and was not a pretty sight The way he fought was ruthless and mean He just came and cut people, it was really a scene Everyone tried to fight but many would fall And the medics were limited for they couldn’t cure all It seemed like Durjonzdar and his men would prevail With King Tohoshinki and him men looking so pale But then from the city ran out a young boy He was about 15 with a look rather coy He had the confidence of Kaos, The god who caused much chaos And the mortality of Leo The god who was so nice he would share his burrito But deep in his eyes that only few could tell Were the eyes of dear Luna The god who was related to this young boy Kuna Kuna ran straight without hesitation It seemed that Durjonzdar the great was his destination The sword the boy held glittered in the sun The bronze blade was sharp and well done Everything seemed to be moving in slow motion As the boy ran through and caused quite a commotion He approached the enemy with a great big thrust But the big man blocked it easily without kicking dust It went on for a while, cutting and blocking But then Durjonzdar seemed to be distracted plotting So the boy gave a thrust straight into the heart And down went Durjonzdar just like a piece of art “How could I get beat? By just a boy This victory goes to you, celebrate with joy” Durjonzdar seemed to sneer out with pain And his last words travel far causing shame Everyone seemed to freeze Then the enemy was gone in a breeze As they fled to their ships, a white flag in defeat The city poured around the Hero to repeat “Hurrah to Great Gilga, Young Gilga Kuna Who defeated the enemy and brought harmony like Goddess Luna” Durjonzdar’s men trudged back to their city Smeared in defeat, and got no pity And the outraged king of their nation Ordered them to the torturing station As Kingdom Cassiopeia celebrated King Tohoshinki seemed to elaborate “We will seek revenge for this attack, which we lost many men They burned part of the city, so we’ll defeat them again And to Young gilga-Kuna who fought them head on He will lead us in battle, and Durjonzdar’s men will be gone!” And so peace was once again brought to the city the buildings were repaired and looked very pretty No one dared to attack this city again For these were the people who defeated Durjonzdar and his men. © 2013 KASIAuthor's Note
