Rich Man, Poor Man

Rich Man, Poor Man

A Poem by Brave New World

Poor man, sitting there

Heart gone, with the air

All from a system that never cared

Rich man, with all of the above

Sold his heart for some love

All from a system that gave him none

Red flag flying, button pressed

Fingers crossed, hoping for the best

All their souls burnt away

Their faces fall in dismay

A system that only thrives

By breaking hearts with endless knives

They call it freedom and liberty

Behind the disguise is poverty

Rich and poor man share a drink

For loneliness and emptiness is their only link

Poor man living on the dole

Rich man has it whole

Neither still have a soul

Sold it, for a minute joy

Time’s up, the ticker is on destroy

All’s gone from the tip of a missile

Couldn’t be saved by the whistle

Yet neither man lost a thing

System took all they had

Empty ghosts fall finally

And the aura rings distantly

I like the logic of this poem. In the end the poor man will accept less and be as guilty as the rich man. The poem was organized and you told a powerful story. I like the complete poem. Ending made the poem outstanding.
