Prologue

A Chapter by Kris Clay
"

This is the first part of the book I'm writing. There is a storm, duh, and the main characture, Casi, is going to get caught in the middle of some strange things.

"

Casina looked out the window, the sky was turning dark grey with storm clouds. The weather man said it was going to be a nice clear day, but from the looks of it, they were wrong. She saw headlights come down the street just as it started to rain, and looked back at the clock, which it read six-o-clock in the afternoon, although it felt later. Casi looked back as the headlights came closer, then pulled up into the driveway. She noticed it was her mom, and ran down the stairs just as he mom started to walk inside.

“Hey!” Casinia said as she fought to close the door which was being pushed open by the growing wind. “Man, its windy outside. You need any help?” While noticing bags her mom had, she asked.

“Yeah, here take these.” Her mom said while handing Casi the food bags. They walked in the kitchen, and watched her mom set her bags down on the counter.

Casi placed the food bags on the table, while her mom put the groceries away, then looked back outside at the sky. Her mom went over and clicked on the T.V. News flooded the stations, and they were talking about how the storm that came on like a flash, but didn‘t know what had caused it. She came back over to the table and took out a chicken sandwich for Casi, and a turkey burger for herself. They began to eat and then Casi remembered her sister.

“When is Elle coming home?” She wondered, because she saw nothing else in the bag for her except for ketchup, napkins, and other things like that.

Her mom looked up at the tan wall clock, “Not for a couple more hours. She decided to take the night shift because it was hard for her to get up in the mornings.” She got a frown on her face. “Tomorrow after I get out of work, I have to go out of town for two weeks on a business meeting. Do you think you will be okay?” she asked.

“Sure,” Casi paused, “you’re never home anyway.” Acting rudely, she picked up her food and left to go upstairs.

It was true though, she was never home, and her not being home makes it hard for me to talk about the issues I want to talk to her about. My mom is clueless. She doesn’t understand me, and it doesn’t even feel like she wants to. I can do whatever I want, and only because she doesn’t know what to do with me. In my own mind though I think that is her fault. Casi thought to herself.

When she got upstairs to her room she slammed her door, and walked over to open her blinds to what would usually let in light, but instead saw the ever growing storm. She wondered in her mind how long it would last. It was almost scary because the clouds came so fast, and there were constant lightning flashes up in the clouds, and all around in the sky. She looked out in front of herself towards the mountains, and it looked as if it was going on forever. Once she turned around to go eat her food, there was a bright flash of lightning that hit a house not to far away from here. In fact, it looked like it was in the same direction as her grandpas’ house. She watched for a minute, but didn’t see any smoke, so she figured it was fine. Once again, she turned around and walked over to her desk, finished eating her sandwich, and took a sip of drink. After, she switched on the news to see if they knew anything new about the storm.

It was weird, not even they knew what caused the storm, or why it was here, and the only main thing they mentioned, was the same type of lightning storm was in certain countries, and only a few states in those countries. They also said the pictures they got from space showed the whole planet was covered with clouds. Since the news casters didn’t even know how, or why it started, they had no clue when it would end. The whole world she knew, was now covered in obscurity, and darkness.

Casi took a deep breath, and realized there was no way she could go anywhere with the rain like it was, especially considering she hated the slightest of rain anyway.

She looked out her window again, around where the thunder hit, and there was still no sign of fire, but something had changed; the clouds were really thick now, and they were so dark they were almost black. They were rolling in even faster than when she went down for lunch, and in the direction of her house.

Something didn’t seem normal with these clouds.

She looked closer at them, and there were black objects floating in the clouds. She was at a really far distance from them, but they looked like floating ghosts, or spirits dressed in black cloth. Casi wanted to see them better, so she decided to go get her dad’s old binoculars.

She turned around to leave her room to go get them when she caught something flash past the corner of her eye. She froze, got suddenly cold, and a quivering feeling went all the way up her spine. She quickly turned around, when at the same time, Casi caught a glimpse of a black shadow quickly move from the position of where he was watching her at her window. She couldn’t move, and she was scared. Ah, heck, she was petrified, and it was minutes before she could blink, budge, and even question what just happened.

What was that thing? Why was it here? Why would it come in and hurt me? Why was it looking at me? Where did all this come from?

With the endless amounts of questions rolling through her head, she halfway came back into reality. Casi shook her head and stumbled over to her bed. She walked along the side of it to her window, and peeked out. She couldn’t see anything.

.

Maybe they were gone.

Sheet lightning flashed brightly along the sky. She jumped, then hopped on her bed as close to the wall as she could get. She kept an eye on the window while she slowly moved the blankets over her legs, then over onto her shoulders. She laid down, pulled the blankets over her face, curled up in a ball, and closed her eyes tightly. She couldn’t stop breathing hard, or shaking. Cautiously, she pulled the blanket down from her eyes, and slowly looked out. It seemed safe so she slowly became more calm. Casi covered up only to her mouth, and closed her eyes, and griped her blanket tight.

.

Casina slowly opened her eyes. She looked around. Was I sleeping? she asked herself.

.

She turned to the clock. It read 1:34 in the morning. She crawled out of bed, and walked to the window hesitantly. There was no sign of flying ghosts anywhere around. It was still raining hard outside though, and the clouds were still thick. Everything stayed still, the rain beat down at a steady pace, and the clouds weren’t rolling in now. She turned back around, while keeping an eye on her back. Walking quietly to the door, she opened it up slowly, and looked out. Everyone appeared to be asleep, so Casi walked out of her room and over to the stairs. She looked behind her back nearly every second, to make sure the hallways were clear, and then turned and looked downstairs. It was dark, but light enough to see. She slowly began to go down the hallways, when one of the stairs creaked, and she quickly she looked back, but there was nothing there, so she continued on down the stairs.

.

When Casi got to the bottom of the stairs, she carefully looked around the corner, then walked into the living room. From a distance, looking outside her back door, she saw black things flying over her house. She walked over to it, and looked out as she opened it up. As Casi walked out, she was keeping an eye on what was going on around her. She looked up at the black things, which turned out just being big different colored birds, and she saw the lead bird looking back at her. They were all flying in a diamond shape, and seemed to be going toward the lightning hit.

.

Why the birds would want to do that, she didn’t know. There were only four birds. The one in the front seemed to have orange and black markings, and Casi figured he was the lead bird. She smiled and nodded her head at it, and it cried at her, and continued on. She turned away from it confused, wondering if it noticed the nod, and knew she gave it as a sign of kindness. Feeling a little silly for nodding at a bird, she walked back inside her house. Once she was back inside, she saw a cup she left out earlier that day, and put it in the sink. Her head slightly felt dizzy, and she wasn’t tired and she knew it, but she figured she would at least go back up to try to get some more sleep, not that she felt she really needed it. Casi turned and went back upstairs.

She thought to herself.

Please tell me what I can fix or change. If you have any randon questions while reading, please ask. Chances are, they have a reason, and will be explained later on in the book. Also, when I pasted the writing, it got all messed up, so there there are random periods where there shouldn't be, don't worry about them, it isn't like that in the main document.
