Simple LeafA Poem by K.C. Zbrykfor friends, family, and any others who can relate...A small bud grows on a branch Surrounded by its companions All similar in some ways Taking pieces learning and adapting From each other All similar But each uniquely different And as time rolled onward Each bud blossomed into a leaf Unfurling and displaying Their simple beauty Accepting the need to support The branch Therefore accepting the need to support Each other Certain times The winds would force them to Huddle closer To shelter each other And others they were pulled Away and in all directions But they were green They were strong They held on to the bond they had grown Understanding the necessary support That each individual needs Still time rolled onward And the wind continued Turning to a bitter cold It was hard to tell where it began But a sickness had set in Some of the leaves were turning Strange colors around the edges Becoming more frail and brittle They needed more Of everything Attention Support Until they spread this Slow disease Frigid wind howled Laced with flecks of ice Prying at the leaves And slowly one by one Each of the leaves Was plucked, let go Or carried away In the rush of this moment There were times that would Bring them all together But in the end They were always scattered again It was their time to set out on their own It was their time to travel where they were needed The best gift offered Is to cherish the memories gathered To not blame the others for the spreading disease 05/05/2012 © 2012 K.C.
