Experiment?

Experiment?

A Poem by K.C. Zbryk

So these were a different chemical altogether

He always loved that feeling

A new drug to alter his current impairment

To a whole new state

He felt like a cosmonaut

Brave daring

And completely unsure if the technology

They stuffed him in will even work

So he inhaled deeply

Taking the first dose of the custom chemical

While trying to keep his mind serene

And his body relaxed

This is always important

When taking the mind to a different state

Especially the one intended with this

It was a new form of herbal intoxication

Supposedly created through the grafting of

The crossbreeding and the cellular stitching

Of intoxicants from the world over

All molded and groomed to create some

Psyche splitting

Revelation inducing

High

That was what he was interested in

He didn’t care if this forced telepathic communication

Or gave him a connection to an ancient being

Physical or otherwise

Or if it just made him insane

He wanted to be drugged

And his connection scored this

Simply saying it was

“The best.”

And so he packed his piece full

Mixing it with some of his normal greenery

And pulling the mirror off his medicine cabinet

So he could keep an eye on his pupils

Over the course of the intoxication

And watch them swell and consume the green coating

The lighter was resting there just beside the pipe

Sitting just beside the ashtray

Cradling his slowly dying cigarette

All sitting on top of the mirror

Best case scenario

He was annihilated and overwhelmed

By an experience that was both

Life altering yet beneficial

In all aspects

Or worst case scenario

He has some form of an aneurism

And is rendered a vegetable for the rest

Of his life

Or he was gypped

And wasted good money on

A shredded rosebush

Oh well.

Haha! I think that the closing is really, really funny. But seriously speaking, the only person I knew who'd tried all kinds of things for a really long time is right now in a cult in which the cult leader says that cell phones can be charged by placing them in front of the cult leader's picture. I cannot fathom how he can remain in the cult but then I think about all the substances he's consumed and how delusional several hallucinations have made him and I can see the effect of all the substance abuse that he subjected himself too. I can actually map it. And, the interesting thing is that the cult leader says that once people join the cult, they leave drugs if they've been on drugs in the past. They do. Because they hyperventilate through the strange breathing technique he makes them practice, are on a high and experience the same delusions that are equally life-altering. I think prolonged substance abuse destroys a person's capacity to think rationally. And, the person starts becoming delusional to the point of fearing life and believing in all kinds of mystical powers and effects. I've done a lot of unlearning and learning in the past few weeks and I can see how weak prolonged substance abuse makes a person and how very negative too.
