SnowfallA Poem by K.C. ZbrykLeaves rustle before the clouds settle in Scraping against the concrete Rolling and tumbling in a rhythmic fashion Forced by the indecisive wind To some unknown destination Just traveling When the grey has settled in above Billowed to full volume To the point that they should rupture Split apart into some horrific storm Snow gently begins to fall The jaundiced husks slow on the pavement Their rustling becomes gentler Until they are covered Consumed by the frost And remain still I always imagined this happening in the rain The police passing us as we follow the family Lights flashing sirens blaring As they escort the hearse To her resting place But the imagination sometimes Fails to cover everything The headstones mimic the snow Identical white marble Staggered across the rolling hills In a crosshatch pattern Or the snow mimics them Streaking across the windshield In angry arching lines Hypnotic We carry her To the shelter And remove the white flowers Pinned to our lapels To place in the casket spray Somehow the world has been coated in white And it feels appropriate 04/10/2013 0224 am © 2013 K.C.
