The Moment Between Actions And Reactions

The Moment Between Actions And Reactions

A Poem by K.C. Zbryk
"

Its not quite like a drug

"

Sweetly soft serene static fills the air

Mind numbing and melodic this sense embalms

Like a drug touched for the first time

The centers of the brain twitching spasmodically

From the gentle caress of sedative fingertips

Rolling from the sheer ecstasy of contact

The moment of the embrace leaves this

Subject catatonic

Silly little silver streamers

Running from a trembling lip while they stand

Staring at the progress here

What a world, what a way to find

How the world spins on its axis

Disassociated from the movements around us

But still shocked that we are still standing here

Not thrown from the planet

In the wake of its restless rolling

It’s so strange to think that we must be in motion here

In order to remain on this rock

When the strongest emotions rise from a state

Motionlessness

When I find myself still the gears turn

And the arguments begin in the silence

Shock can act like a mute button

While the brain screams behind the flickering screen

But the owner is as effective as the TV resting on the counter

Sitting and silently staring

Noting more than a momentary distraction

Mind numbing and melodic

Showing only static

for me it is about the drug, in my distant past...i didn't mean to come off as having it be all about drugs...i know it's something higher. i see the representation i also make about the sheep whose minds are numb. your poem does ask profound questions. unfortunately we can't even share an intelligent conversation with someone without interrupting them and their gadgets and having to dumb things down for them. i like the message you are saying, even if i am completely off, it's still thought-provoking.

a rare moment to capture. musings on our place in this world and how we stay grounded. it's true, questions like this come out when one is under the influence of a substance...we get a different perspective on everything and we f ind meaning for ourselves that no one else sees. funny though, through personal experience we begin asking the big questions and we experience it as sort of stream-of-consciousness that really drives us to find the truth. we get a second of clarity about everything. and there is serenity in that moment and all is as it should be. your poem just brought me back to some good times and minds...you should read aldous huxley, 'doors of perception.' excellent piece.

Astounding! You did justice to that moment. You etched its dimensions and traveled in its realms. It really is fascinating to notice how still we are on a moving planet. Sometimes, it's tough to comprehend how distraught we are inside and yet so still--almost like a lull before a storm except that there's no storm. Change is a slow process and evolution is even slower. Just my thoughts after reading this astounding piece of poetry.
