Nothing to Say

rant...

Something’s wrong with my mind

When some people start speaking my brain

Fires off at full speed

Focusing in on each word and laying fibers

Onto the frame

 

Preparing to weave some response

From the depths of the interior

 

Yet

 

Other times these people will speak

And there is no substance

No meaning behind the words

Leaving me incapable of response

 

Often I find that I have failed

To follow even one full sentence

Let alone the full paragraph they spoke

It’s like they have a sign announcing

Nothing to say

So I just stop listening at the beginning

 

I want words with meaning

Minds that understand what is behind the word

The definition

 

What’s the point of speech

Without understanding the words

 

I hear someone talk

Using all the wrong words

Yet they are mad at me

For my misunderstanding

 

So often I find my simple response is anger

But this really makes no sense either

Why let a fool fuel a fire

 

Have you ever given a spastic child

A can full of gas?

i really enjoyed this piece. i agree with everything you say. i feel sometimes like people are just talking at me, and i, too, have no response, and are unable to have an intelligent conversation. and this makes me feel alone. you're succinct in every word you speak and articulate exactly how i feel. that is the mark of a great poet.

Welcome to the real world, my friend! People at large do not select their words carefully. They do not realize that words carry meaning. Most times, they are clueless about what they're talking about. Ask them one question and they get exposed badly.

This is a brilliant piece of writing. It has more meaning than half the pieces on this site put together!
