~Words~

~Words~

A Poem by JoSamarthi
"

What words do to us....

"

Those words, those benign string of alphabets
how they spring forth emotions
of happiness, of grief, of upsets
How they toy, with slow deliberation,
with dubious hearts, making them outlets
of raw, unabashed excitation

How they lift you up and put you down
when juxtaposed with a tinge of sadism
How they leave you hanging on to each one
until they dissolve into nothingness and leave you feeling lonesome
But then there are words uttered with intended pun
How they make you wonder the truth behind them
and leave you feeling bothersome

And those words, those glib talks
thrown in your face so carelessly
spurring deep inside a feeling of faux
and you try to pry it's true identity mercilessly
because you think truths were once lies,
but dig deep, deeper and you will uncover a paradox

Of many errors you make, you stereotype
words spoken many a times by many a mortal
you fail to understand that you are creating a hype
for each to his own, his words are his portal
into your life, his purpose, is of a different type
so open your doors to him and you can tell

Those words, those benign string of alphabets
how they steal a place in your heart
How they clutter your brain and flutter in your heart's closet
Those words..... trust them, so they don't tear you apart!

I really liked the concept here, it was powerful. words, unmanifested, are benign string of alphabets. For its meaning, power and intensity to spring forth and exists, the manifestation occurs with each of us internally.

And yet the manifestation and what is painted greatly varies as each of us go through comprehending the depth of the message through different experiences. The greatest skill and challenge of a writer relies on ensuring that what is painted in words draws consistent comprehension through different readers, who can further understand the implied message deeply embedded. This is powerful.

Great form, format, choice of words, and well painted imagery. Well imparted message.

A wonderful piece

Language is a Demigod, as the title of my essay avers. When a boy, I was impressed by the pulp fiction of the first Tarzan novel, circa 1914, when the young ape-raised Tarzan comes across children's books intended for him by his dead parents. When he first saw words on the page, he thought they were bugs, and tried to pick them off.

Years later, an Octavio Paz poem was about the fire-seed aliveness of language. I'll have to remember which book that's in. Paz, my Spanish namesake, won the Nobel Prize in '90. I met him in the '80s. . .

Language is a Demigod. Time and again I've discovered more neglected meanings in words that shed much light on narrow socialized habits.

Thanks for this poem of remembrance of the aliveness of language!

lovely. i' can't even say why exactly i love this poem, i just do! what a wonderful tribute to words themselves - one of the tributes i've read.

"you try to pry it's true identity mercilessly
because you think truths were once lies,
but dig deep, deeper and you will uncover a paradox"

that and "heart's closet" was another way with words. :)

great job
