The awakening

The awakening

A Poem by Jvonne

I woke up at dawn, while the sun still slumbered.

The world around me was silent, my presence small and insignificant.

Clarity washed over me and made me see the shallow side of me.

To fight is the only way we feel alive.

Chasing rainbows, endless journeys to nowhere.

While wars are raging and children clutch to broken dreams.

We try to forget more than we care to remember.

Our desire to be free brings us closer to the edge.

The edge of reason, the edge of humanity.

We cover our eyes and close our hearts.

We turn away and hide from the mind consuming reality.

We build our beliefs on the empty promises of mindless politicians.

And as the world comes crashing down around us, we turn to see we've been alone all along.

And we imagine a world before we became what we are.

Our hearts ace with anticipation and we wake before dawn, while the sun still slumbers...

Your words tell a true story. Led by foolish leaders the sheep are led to the slaughter. Harder to raise a hand in friendship then to destroy a whole country. I like the emotion and the strong ending to this excellent poem.

it is not over yet.
Perhaps by the time we finish
our story, the end will be in sight.
Have faith, patience and hope .
You are on the right track .

This time... this awakening place... how it stirs the heart and mind... Your words dance in the darkness and speak of dreams mingling with daylight... I love to walk before dawn... the earth shares her secrets then.

It's frustrating and untidy...and we are left to find some semblance of satisfaction amongst it all. Your poem is truly on the mark, sensitive to the quandry of our existence.

Nice work...

The word 'dawn' sets the mood for the poem as the light of contemplation gradually reveals the world and humanity to the reflecting poet. This is a solemn view of humanity. It is full of disenchantment: Chasing rainbows, endless journeys to nowhere... children clutch to broken dreams... We build our beliefs on the empty promises of mindless politicians.

I really liked this:
And as the world comes crashing down around us, we turn to see we've been alone all along. And we imagine a world before we became what we are.

What emerges from the poem, and especially in the above lines, is the portrait of a tragic creature, forsaken and forlorn who again and again takes refuge in the dissipating clouds of imagination. A creature fueled by the tiniest drops of hope.
I love the subject of the poem. Well done.

Very interesting poem and very well chosen title.

You wake up in the morning and your soul wakes up as well and you show you are not oblivious to what is going around...

Quite philosophical from this perspective...
