Cold EffiencyA Poem by Justin DelToroI consider this to be my most presentable poem. It was inspired by a single sentence, then by heartbreak. I wrote this during the small rainy season we managed to get during our drought.Standing in the field of crows Got me wanting to fly to you like birds do -- to slow down in time Dented and lost, you wish to become steadfast The calm of the storm in my eyes You say you've gotten better But you ain't any better Aren't you just terrified?
Waking up to the cold realities Rain pouring As I sing blues forever We were ablaze But now the waters are rising just as the fires had done Losing touch with our deepest selves in these shallows: losing brightness
Our love is crashing in Like water against the rocks Embedded in the sand: I found God This feels like a baptism for the end Will you drown with me?
Walking around, Why do you face the ground? Your mind grows restless -- your heart is fearing damage Your life is wrecking Your heart is fearing damage Your heart is fearing damage
Shed your skin of worry Every cracking feature to be known Gathered beyond in a field of crows We are like two hearts beating out each other's names Clinging to love like foreign creatures Your glory I will exemplify Would it really hurt if we were to kiss? Sinking deeper into the madness that feels like bliss Your laugh echoes into lies that call my way -- it’s simply taking over our lives again Freeze The blues never felt like songs to me Till I held you in my arms and started singing “I found the devil” Our fires have extinguished and sizzled out to the rain Slowly but surely we are dying out There is nothing left for us to strive for -- run for your life Now just a spark, we are losing brightness Shone with gold like wildfires We called out for adventures: steady-hand damnations Boy you had the whole world in your hands And I had sung blues forever To the sun we’ll run for cover Slowing down in time © 2015 Justin DelToroAuthor's Note
