Fire in Her Eyes

Fire in Her Eyes

A Poem by Justine

The golds and greens,

The fire of the hazel

In her eyes have died.

Her smile and laugh

Are hollow and empty

Because the fire

That once warmed them is gone.

She stands in an invisible fog,

The smoke in her eyes leave them a dull

Version of their former colors.

He sees, he knows

He is to blame,

There’s nothing he can do,

To take back the pain

He caused.

Remembering the days he

Caused them to sparkle,

As she laughed.

The greens and golds

The blues and browns

Changing with her moods.

Her laughs and smiles,

Warm and full.

The vibrant colors

were smothered out with

the breaking of her heart.

yes, she smiled,

she even laughed,

but he could tell they weren’t the same.

Hollow and empty.

They weren’t from the same girl

He had once loved.

When she glanced over

In his direction,

His arm now around another’s waist,

He could only keep his

Eyes on hers a second,

A pleading, apologetic second.

Turning away,

He could only hope

That soon,

Someday soon,

Someone would give life

Back to the fire in her eyes.

Before the small flicker

Died forever.
