Awake Dreams

Awake Dreams

A Poem by Justine

There are 1440 minutes in a day,

And just a few of those are all mine.

No one needs me,

I have no where else to be.

Uninterrupted and mine.

They are the minutes just before sleep and just as I wake.

Quiet moments when my mind is allowed to wander deep.

Where I can think of you.

If I concentrate hard enough I can see you,

feel you kiss me,

I can hear your laugh.

I can hear what you might say,

But here is where I must tread carefully,

Cautiously, for my mind,

If I let it could create someone youre not,

Causing you to break my heart without you knowing.

When done with care,

These dreams,

These awake thoughts bring me so much joy.

They allow me to breathe after or before a busy day.

I can wake and fall asleep with a smile,

No matter what the day has brought or will bring.

They allow me to know who I am.

They give you back to me after you leave,

As I replay our time together over and over
