Learning to Let Go

Learning to Let Go

A Poem by Just Plain Me

He gets confused when she looks away,
    thinking he did something wrong.
In reality it's her hiding from the feelings she loves,
afraid he'll see the fear in her eyes.

What if he's like daddy?
         What if he runs away?
How do I let go of the past,
              and grab the future,
if my heart won't accept the present?

She get's confused when he gets angry,
    thinking she did something wrong.
In reality she keeps him human,
   her voice keeping him calm.

What if she's like the others?
What if she's playing me for the fool?
How do I let go of the past,
              and grab the future
if my heart is caught in the present?

They're both scared of being hurt,
everything has taught them that's how life works.
But if they want to be happy...
They'll have to release the past,
         take hold of their future,
            and thrive in their present.

How do I let go of the past,
and grab the future,
if my heart won't accept the present?

I have asked myself this often, and have felt this way.
I like this write and felt some bitterness in it.
Very well written, love the set-up in this.

This gave me intense chills, relatable and worded well. I love the repetitive line, it adds a lot of effect.
