A Thanks From Daddys Girl

A Thanks From Daddys Girl

A Poem by Just Plain Me

He didn’t have to be there to tuck me in,
he didn’t have to be there to give me hugs,
he didn’t have to be there to watch me grow…
but he was.

He didn’t have to treat me like his own,
He didn’t have to teach me how to ride a bike,
he didn’t have to help me become who I am…
but he did.

He never had to claim me as his own,
He never had to say “these are my girls,”
He never had to take care of me…
he just does.

He never had to love me,
He never had to care,
He never had to protect me when he has…
he just always has.

Thank you for being my Daddy,
you don’t know how much it means.
Thank you for making my your little girl,
even though you never had too.

Author's Note

Just Plain Me
George Markland McKenzie has been my daddy since I was three years old. No I don't share DNA or his last name...but he's the one who carried me into the doctor's office when I was 6 years old because I couldn't move because of the a fever. He's the one who held my hand when my cast was removed from my arm. And the one who taught me how to ride a bike. He is my daddy. You can say that he's not because "legally" I'm Frank Suter's biological daughter. But I'm George's little girl...that's what's important to me. You have an issue with that...you can shove it.
