Making It

Making It

A Poem by Tricia O'Brien
"

Young Recovery

"

Blocked by the only way out
Pressed against the wall
The smoke rises
Your lungs become challenged
Autopilot kicks in
You hit your knees
You make your way to that stain glass window you've always admired
You destroy it with your elbow
Releasing a gust of smoke out into the streets
As you climb out you feel relief
Your cut
Blood is dripping
You smile as medics race to you
All is in slow motion

You can't even tell if your walking
It's like you're not even really there
No sound
All you see are people pointing crying and moving they're mouths
Again, you hear nothing it's silent
