America

America

A Poem by Just Simple Sounds

America

-In a land where freedom is kept in a caged box
-Where free speech is silenced
-And unalienable rights,
-Are only for the over privileged
-This is my land, my home
-Racism around every corner
-And discrimination behind every door
-Lies hold the keys to unlock the truth
-And behind smiles, lie deceit
-This is my land, my home
-This is ... America
-Where my skin color will make a woman hug her purse
-Then double over, and when I pass,
-Look over her shoulder
-This is where prostitution is an institution
-Where oppression, is the only way to keep progressing
-This is my land, my home
-Where lost souls roam,
-And make excuses for their excuses
-And one nation under God,
-Only exists when pen meets paper
-You can't deny the aura
-Nor the evil allure,
-Mistaken to be greatness in full
-Modern day Sodom and Gomorrah
-This is my land and my home
-This is ... America
