The Clock

The Clock

A Poem by Just Simple Sounds

The Clock

-She struggles to keep a steady heartbeat
-Her fear of the unknown has her nervous to take steps forward
-So she stands in the same spot staring ... Just staring at the clock
-Wanting all "what ifs" to come to past
-But her past ... Her past, it overwhelms thoughts of the future
-Fear says be cautious when your heart is on the line, but her mind says don't think about the time
-Unsure of what her feelings mean, she stands there staring ... Just staring at the clock
-Unable to move, shocked ... All she can do is listen to the slow but constant ... Tick ... Tock
-Love, it's something she's felt before but due to a heavy heart it was dropped ... Lost
-But something new, something different, has her considering finding and dusting it off ... Starting over
-Lets give it another go. Overcome the fear. Verify that it's all real. Endure the pain and enjoy the joy it brings
-But all she can do is stare ... Just keep staring
-What happens when the clock stops, when time is up?
-What will she stare at then? Another lost love?
-She comes to, turns from the clock
-Realizing what was happening, she looks ...
-Desperately trying to find the key she lost to her chest holding a diamond in the shape of a hearted crest
-Becoming frantic she tries her best, but her memory is shot ...
-She reaches to the back of her mind where everything repressed lies , and there its found
-But that sound ...
-Looking back at the clock, she stares again and it happens, the final ... Tick ... Tock
