the lookout

the lookout

A Poem by Jordan Varner

her eyes shone bright as a thousand blank screens
and as she danced in the night i fell for her

that summer sent me into a spin that would rattle me to the core
and as we walked to the lookout i knew that i had to kiss her

it seems funny to me because we only met over complimenting each other's shirts
and i haven't seen that shirt since that summer week

i kissed her in a rainstorm on top of a wooden lookout while we watched the busy people below
it was just us for that moment and if i could savor it and bring it back i would

i haven't talked to her in years and although i always see her online
i wish i could take back those nights and days

but she's with someone else now and i know he treats her right
but sometimes i dream of that first night in the glow of the stage

and as she danced in the night i fell for her
