Sometimes blue doesn't have to be a sad color

Sometimes blue doesn't have to be a sad color

A Poem by Jordan Varner

We met at a small pizza place in the town which I lived
As soon as I walked through the door your blue hair entered my vision
And your looks hit me like a freight train on speed
And you didn't notice me

There are a few reasons I noticed you.
One. Your hair, of course.
Two. Your eyes were unlike anything I'd ever seen prior.
And three. Because I have a proclivity to falling in love easily with people who will never even know my name.
You were a futile effort, but I tried.
In my head at least.

If I could have told you what I felt for the ten minutes I stood there looking at you
You probably would go out of your way to never see me again
Which you probably won't anyway

Because I am a wayfaring stranger
And you are a delicate flower
Which I am forbidden to pick
Because you are an unknown breed
An indigo Iris, a verulian lily

And we will never meet again
So I will have to savor these minutes with which I have been gifted
The chance to observe such a rare and beautiful species
And to gaze upon beauty

I hope you never read this
But I also secretly hope one day I get the chance to show you this
And we laugh and smile
And we look back fondly on this moment
In a small pizza place in the town which I live in
