ChesterA Poem by Jamar Saunderswhat i see on the streets of my city
Trash coated streets
Broken community Under bullets we sleep Like wild fire , our pain is too hard to sustain ignorance holds wool over our eyes Education is forsaken increasing the simple mistake we are making Young confidence defeated Young dreams are retreating Materials are idolized Fun is dark the wrong is prioritized Folks need money So crime is in our their lives Young black girls beguiled living in loveless homes their parents in jail looking for love in males they put their souls on shelves Confusing love with lust now their dreams are covered with dust For males there is not much Fatherless son , which moms raise Without seeing a man they dont know how men behave Like father like son So they get caged Hopes rot , dreams fade In the end they want to get saved Alcohol and weed hid misfortune Moral contortion At the bottom Wishing they stayed on the path of graduation instead of hanging at the train station Police degrade them Authority dismays them Manifesting self-hatred Now demons are created Churches on every block The Lord protects us , not cops Faith is not enough In God the parents do not trust So the preachers words wont mean much Unless the family shows trust the cycle seems endless their sins can be forgiven nothing is permanent we can move on from it
