The only difference

The only difference

A Poem by Jack Knoxville
"

humanity is aching,

"
The world around us
is falling down
hope is crumbling
humanity is stumbling
and amongst the herd
there is a rumbling
In the belly of the nation
there is a craving
for something different
than the usual horse s**t we are so often
force fed
Where, not just when, will we be
when it finally ends?
Why is it so hard to just be friends
When our struggles are one and the same.
The only thing that makes me different than you
is my name and the space that exists
between these sentences.
I'd like to believe that one day we'll figure it out
mend these fences.
Come back together,
sit at the same table
share a drink
a smoke
a laugh or two
So tell me friend, what is it that troubles you
about me,
or him
or her,
or them?
