The Brain PitA Poem by Zachary E. TenneyA commentary on the dangers of excessive introspection.Darkness Frigid air Hollow tree trunk covered in ghastly white bark Cushioned inside by soft pink resin Standing in the space so flawlessly hollowed Secrets call up from the rabbit hole Begging to be followed Pulling at the strings of the soul Memories Mathematical concepts Gargantuan structures of vocabulary Parental doctrines Moaning, groaning A raging maelstrom of knowledge Hovers just above the darkness The enticing darkness, beneath all the common rabble And the miscellaneous perceptions Such mysteries lurk there Even the self is unaware of their presence A step further A peek over the sheer black edge What will be revealed? Is it safe to know such things? Sliding forward Toes creep over the edge, shuddering in the cold abyss air rushing up One slip, and it's down the abyss Best be careful Inching forth, one last time Falling into darkness Falling Falling Falling FALLING And gone.
