The Road

The Road

A Poem by MsJewel
"

there is nothing like a long drive to clear the head and mend the heart

"

He lifted me to heights I’ve never known

the world passing in a blur

my mind spinning (faster than these tires)

                                unable to focus until

left reeling from the whiplash of his final impact

                                I look upon you

                                my old friend

                                you share my desires

                                never wavering,

                                                this mutual fire

                                I give…and you open wider

leading me to places I never dreamed of going

on nights so lonely there’s nowhere to turn,

except to ride in comfortable silence

as you wipe away my lingering tears

painting vistas just for my eyes

                                as welcome as the sun

                                rising in the sky

                                and finally

                                I can breathe…

What a terrific metaphor Julie. Life, from time to time will remind us of loss, of what was, or should have been. And there we are, within ourselves, seeking answers to all the whys. Or as your line says: "on nights so lonely there's nowhere to turn/except to ride in comfortable silence..." And as life usually does, shows you different paths to: "I can finally breathe..."

Nicely penned, Julie!

As one with jacob on this, a wonderful and very sublime metaphor that ran seamlessly through every line.

quite a powerful ride. shedding the weight of the world. there is freedom and liberation on the open road. who doesn't like letting out the throttle once and while? a full tank of gas can go a long way in healing a broken heart.

Thanks so much Pete. :) Julie
Love the metaphor...sometimes the past causes us to screech to a halt trying not to hit anything that

will further damage our heart....there should be heart insurance.
This shows hope for the future and new roads to take to happiness.

Thank you for your insightful comment Jacob. I appreciate you and your friendship :) Julie
So lovely to share new experiences with someone who is like minded. There is a sense of mutual joy in the poem as well as a shared feeling of freedom which allows the poetess to breathe comfortably in new surroundings. Very finely inked and dotted with little resplendent jewels of depiction. The added graphic complements the poem perfectly. A sublime write, Julie. I enjoyed reading and thank you for sharing...

Most welcome always, Julie...
MyJewell, when you let you pen run wild like your lonely thoughts your creative juices pour faster than the gasoline through a redlined engine.
I am in awe of you ability to describe a scene without saying anything to do with what you really mean.
This line: "unable to focus until, left reeling from the whiplash of his final impact"
Damed if that doesn't make me want a cigarette.
Kinda paints a vivid picture,
You M'lady are a wordsmith of the finest degree.
