Monsters

Monsters

A Poem by MsJewel
"

~ some inspiration from Stephen King ~

"

   I trusted him

        He knew

the trust of the innocent is a liar’s most useful tool

Perhaps he just rose from bed on the wrong side

        as if challenging fate

        Or could it be

the mind of a madman is a dark maze of intensity

        Passion,

                anger,

                        euphoria,

                                control

With an insatiable hunger, fueled by the moment

        His to possess, to enjoy

until it’s time for the next one

        Regardless,

he wore his wickedness as smile

mine ran away from my face

a smarter woman would have followed

(I plan to think about this later)

        But innocence can be deceiving

Once tempted by the fruits of one’s own mind,

        by the ache deep within

        that once touched

        must be touched

        again

                and again

And pretty faces don’t always have pretty intentions

Dine with the devil, reservations at 7

Serving youth and desire for appetizers…souls for dessert

        Lucifer winked

        so not to witness

the hem of my skirt riding up

just enough to keep him distracted

        "Yes, monsters are real

        They live inside of us

        Sometimes they win" Stephen King

I laugh to myself now when I think of him

Certainly a different poem for you. I love your romantic pieces but I now love this off the beaten path you took here. Stephen King may have inspired it but your poem stands on its own quite nicely.
Yes we all have good and bad within us, it is up to us to decide what we release upon humanity.

There is light and dark in each one of us. Ah the temptation, the seduction by temptation has been the ruin of many. I liked what I read here.

wow! love the dark and enticing side of this..well done .. not that i really love it...but i love it ;) sharp and real wisdom in your tale ..i like the story telling and the change up in narrator i read in your italicized lines ..for some reason it hit me as coming from the author not your speaker .. closing line a mix of the two ...whether that is something meant or not .. and taken either as a change up or not..this is a really good dark read for me and pegs clearly the monsters in us all as well as a warning to be heeded .. well done says i!

Reminds me of a bipolar person I know. And to a lessor extent myself and everyone I've ever known.

The dichotomy of personality inside one person can be astounding. If we look for it we can find all kinds of things inside... a devil or a saint but usually something more mundane.

Nice writing doll face.

Thanks so much David :) Julie
Your poem is strong & compelling, even without being tied to any famous author. I love the way you balance creepiness & playfulness. You present a macabre scene that's very fresh & thought-provoking, since you describe the situation on the inside (thinking) as well as the outside (sensing). Nice change of pace since I've been in the mood for freaky writing more than romantic! *wink! wink!* Fondly, Margie

Thank you my dear friend. :) Julie
A dark tale of truth. You hooked me till the end.
I liked the way you subtly hinted the sadness in your every line and in the end you summed it up with the quote. Very creative.

You're most welcome :)
I admit I take an odd view.
The ending makes me feel the choice was to be a monster.
Instead of serving in Heaven, I choose to rule in Hell.
Somebody has to do it.

Friends of mine grew up in his town. Nice guy from what they said.
Darkly romantic, and full of light and dark tones. This spoke to me, sincerely. Excellent... excellent write!

The worst monsters are the ones inside people we thought we trusted. A departure for you for sure. A nice little twist in the road
