So Long February

So Long February

A Poem by MsJewel
"

~writing on a rainy February afternoon - wishing for spring~

"

painting by  Davor Subotić

So long February…

To short days

and left-over winter nights

To lonely afternoons

wandering the deserted shore

searching for a seabirds song

to replace the pitter patter of rain

serenading my umbrella

Goodbye to

28 days

of a cold nose

and colder toes

29 on a leap year

Except of course

on that one day dedicated to love

when everything is warm and fuzzy

I’ll remember you

when spring is here

and the flowers in the window box bloom

in pastel shades

under marshmallow cream clouds

stirring confetti skies

The sun blushing my cheeks

I’ll think of you and smile

when my umbrella is tucked safely away

in the hall closet

behind my rain galoshes

and the bright yellow rain coat

I never returned to Macy’s

So long February

I’ll keep you forever

wrapped in red paper hearts

and a half eaten box of Godiva chocolates…

I can’t complain really, about the weather we’ve had here in February. It’s the first time in my lifetime that February has bee the warmest month in an Ontario winter. Your poem gives it a very pleasing and memorable send off. I like how you started this poem off walking the beach with rain hitting your umbrella... in a normal February here we would be cross country skiing on the beach :)

Thank you my dear friend :) Julie
This is a gracefully detailed song of promise! Usually February is already spring-like here, but this year, more cold than usual so I didn't even notice Feb is nearly gone now! I love the sassy attitude in this poem, as if Feb is a long-gone lover that you really don't care if you ever see again, but you're being civil & telling him/her that you'll think of him/her -- yeah right! *smile* Tons of excellent imagery painted in words that make this message all your own! (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie
