So Long February

So Long February

A Poem by MsJewel
"

~writing on a rainy February afternoon - wishing for spring~

"

painting by  Davor Subotić

So long February…

To short days

and left-over winter nights

To lonely afternoons

wandering the deserted shore

searching for a seabirds song

to replace the pitter patter of rain

serenading my umbrella

Goodbye to

28 days

of a cold nose

and colder toes

29 on a leap year

Except of course

on that one day dedicated to love

when everything is warm and fuzzy

I’ll remember you

when spring is here

and the flowers in the window box bloom

in pastel shades

under marshmallow cream clouds

stirring confetti skies

The sun blushing my cheeks

I’ll think of you and smile

when my umbrella is tucked safely away

in the hall closet

behind my rain galoshes

and the bright yellow rain coat

I never returned to Macy’s

So long February

I’ll keep you forever

wrapped in red paper hearts

and a half eaten box of Godiva chocolates…

I can’t complain really, about the weather we’ve had here in February. It’s the first time in my lifetime that February has bee the warmest month in an Ontario winter. Your poem gives it a very pleasing and memorable send off. I like how you started this poem off walking the beach with rain hitting your umbrella... in a normal February here we would be cross country skiing on the beach :)

February here in India has always been an unremarkable month. The heat is already on the rise by then. Valentine's Day has reached our shores in recent years. So nowadays there is a bit of a buzz, mid-month.

This such breathtaking poetry....Thank you for sharing your art with me, MsJewel.

Thank you for your lovely comment :) Julie
What a great tribute to the month of February. Fortunately, it was not rainy or cold here in South Florida. Unfortunately, we will remember Valentine's Day forever as the day 17 people were massacred in Stoneman Douglas High School here. Will you share that half eaten box of chocolates? :) Lydi**

:) thank you, Julie! Smiling here.
A very lovely tribute and gentle farewell to the month that represents the end of winter. I love the way you describe the effect it has on you and the hope of the oncoming spring.

I love the picture accompanying this piece too! Lovely
Julie, reading your work is like touring an art gallery with a gifted poet. I love the painting, the colors, soft shades... and the optimism of a short skirt and shoulderless top in late February. Your writing is always fresh and light. We could say so many nasty things about February (especially if you live in the Midwest). Instead, you politely wish it farewell, like someone you might've met on long tropical vacation. "Thanks for the memories," you might say, "but now we must go our separate ways." Another great one I truly enjoyed.

Thank you for your kind and generous words Robert. I appreciate you :) Julie
January is the dreaded month.
I quite like Feb. Before you know it, it's over.
March, we've been snowed in.
Chocolates sound nice. Send them round.
