The Wee Hours

~ early, early in the morning ~

I like the wee hours of morning….

 

when there is no color to distract us

black and white, motionless

       our souls

reluctant to the coldness of early winds

content in our cocoon, blanketed by the night

               

You find me in the dark and time slips away in a dream

I’m afraid to wake you

                          afraid of waking up

                                    afraid you will fade away

 

It is only when you’re gone, I understand your presence

you shelter me

you comfort me

you control me

you numb me

you could fool me…

                                                                I wouldn’t know it

 

Inevitably the sun rises, innocent and new

                                 and it is too late

 

                                                                …because I love you
